In the centre of the picture is the A53, which was originally a Roman road out of Buxton; a spa town known to the Romans as "Aquae Arnemetiae".
The body of water, to the right, is Tittesworth Reservoir.
The River Churnet runs from the centre-left of this picture, in a more-or-less straight line to the reservoir.
