In 2015, stage 6 of the race cut through the Churnet Valley around Leek.

I found myself a shady spot to stand outside the village of Meerbrook, by Tittesworth Reservoir, which was looking a bit dry.

The leading group of riders rolled out of the village around 11:15.

They then headed across the causeway that crosses the reservoir.

The next group of riders, at this point, was not far behind and it was not obvious how much damage had been done by the climb over Gun Hill.

By the finish, only a few riders remained out ahead. The rest of the field had been left half an hour behind, just ahead of the broom wagon. The stage was won in a close sprint by Matteo Trentin of Etixx-Quick Step, narrowly beating the yellow jersey and eventual tour winner, Edvald Boassen Hagen of MTN-Qhubeka.
